Looking for someone to speak to your club, church, organization, board or other company group? We'd be happy to come out and talk about what the Pennies for Poverty: 2 Cents 4 Change is all about.
Help us fund the 2 Cent Grant by donating just 2 cents a day or $7.30 a year! Just save your pennies; write a check and deposit at one of the 4 local banks that have 2 cent accounts (Institution for Savings, Eastern Bank, Provident Bank, or 5 Cent Savings Bank). Please help us fund books for literacy programs, fresh vegetables for the food pantries, and other programs and new initiatives! One hundred percent of the money donated to the grant is awarded to local organizations or individuals that work to reduce poverty here in Newburyport.
If 200 people donated just $10, we would have our annual budget covered! We are a program run by volunteers from the community, funded by the community, for the benefit of the community.
The Pennies for Poverty: 2 Cents 4 Change is a volunteer group whose purpose is fundraising, promoting volunteerism, and raising awareness about poverty in Newburyport, MA. The core reason the Pennies for Poverty program exists is to lessen the current effects of poverty and crisis, while working simultaneously to eliminate the root causes of poverty and crisis in the future. Today's decisions will therefore be made in the context of both today and tomorrow, asking the question, "How will this decision affect the future of our organization AND the future of our community?" Our guiding principles are that all parties to any decision will be treated with respect, dignity, compassion, grace, integrity, honesty and humanity; Our message must be positive, that we CAN make change; With a passionate optimistic message, we can change minds and move mountains: We can accomplish significant change if the whole community works together, focusing ALL of the community's varied resources towards improving our community's quality of life, and that all of the community must share ownership of our problems and our solutions.
The program is divided into four sections:
Two Cents for Change: A program to raise awareness of poverty in our area and to encourage everyone in Newburyport to donate 2 cents a day to the 2 Cents 4 Change Campaign. Two cents a day is $7.30 per year which, if everyone in Newburyport participated, would amount to $125,000.
Two Cans for Change: A program to increase awareness as well as increase donations to the food pantries in the area.
Two Hours for Change: A program to increase volunteerism in town by encouraging everyone to volunteer at least two hours a month in any capacity or with any organization of their choosing.
Together for Change: Providing free events throughout the year in order to bring about awareness and celebrate community togetherness. Together, we CAN make a difference
Please consider joining our efforts to end poverty here in Newburyport. We need your ideas, your time and your efforts to make this new program work.
